Opera Performances


Opera performances are shows that give their audiences the chance to enjoy an opera or operatic pieces in a concert format. An opera is composed of a music score and a range of singers who perform the 'words' of the opera (known as the libretto). So, an opera is kind of like a classical musical with a story that unfolds as the opera plays out. Most operas will run much like plays with intervals in the performance to give the audience a chance to take a break and have some refreshments.

As with pop music opera creates its own range of star performers and big name singers. In recent years singers such as Callas, Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras have all achieved fame here. Most major operas will take place in specially designed opera houses where the acoustics of the venue have been specially designed to showcase the music and voices upon which an opera depends so much.
